Why “Peyo Tata”?¿Por qué “Peyo Tata”?

“TA TA”

The name “Ta Ta” grew from his lifelong love of boxing. Whenever a fight was on, he would call out “ta, ta” at the screen. What began as a familiar expression soon became the nickname that followed him throughout his life. Pedro became Peyo Tata, the name by which generations knew him and the name he proudly signed on his paintings.

Peyo Tata grew up watching ballgames through the fence of Parque Charles H. Terry and became one of the great catchers of Puerto Rican amateur baseball. He chose his studies over a professional contract, became an art teacher, and painted Ponce and Puerto Rico for the rest of his life. He served his city for two decades and was inducted into seven halls of fame.
